Peeper Song

Spring peepers bee-deep bee-deep
Cry at dusk and early dawn
Balloon necks bellow
Singing songs so mellow
Hoping for mates to come.

Sounds of a Mountain Spring

Close your eyes for just a bit
Listen to the memory of bees buzzin'
Frogs harrumphin' in the distance
The sound of Junebugs zippin' round
The joyful sound of birds in the trees.
Off an' down the creek comes the sound
Of a sorry ol' hound dog
And the laughter of youngin's
Playin' in the creek.

Spring Songs

Standing in the dark of night I hear them
For the first time in an unsteady Spring
They sing out, calling their names
Little peepers, tree frogs, occasional bullfrog
Calling, calling, singing in homespun harmonies.
Peep peep a deep, chee-peep
Echoing in the distant wetlands they sing.
Sitting on the just blooming branch
Head just above water they croak and call.
Gaaruump a dump rump rump bump
The bullfrog carefully adds the bass line
As if he has just seen the music for the first time.
"It is finally Spring", they call and sing.

Peepers

The sleepers have arisen
The peepers are awake
They sing for their beloved
Until they see a snake

First Peep

Not too very far
In the darkness
Of unrealized morning
Peepers cling tight
To bark and twig
Grass and branch
Singing long and loud
Calling to lovers
Peeps of high pitched harmonies
